MIAMI Magazine named Dee Gordon one of its ‘Altruists of the Year’ on Tuesday night. Gordon is a part of a small group of community leaders that MIAMI Magazine has recognized as the most exciting and innovative philanthropists.

MIAMI Magazine honored Dee for his Flash of Hope program. Flash of Hope is a program of the Marlins Foundation designed to help children in South Florida who have been victims or have lost a parent to domestic violence. During the 2017 season, Flash of Hope partnered with Voices For Children and together, they organized various private experiences and special events that benefited over 120 children.

In addition, Dee has actively supported Striking Out Poverty and the Boys & Girls Club of Highlands County. Striking Out Poverty connects Major League Baseball players and fans to help end poverty in the Dominican Republic. It is focused on meeting the urgent needs of the poorest communities which include clean water, agriculture, healthcare, education, and more. In January 2017, Dee traveled to the Dominican Republic with Striking Out Poverty. Dee witnessed firsthand how a lack of clean water affects these communities on a daily basis and it compelled him to do more.  In less than a year, over $40,000 has been donated to Striking Out Poverty as a result of Dee’s generosity and fundraising efforts.

Boys & Girls Club of Highlands County serves Dee’s hometown of Avon Park, Florida. Dee has supported the club since 2012 through donations, hosting an annual basketball tournament to raise funds, and providing children’s presents for the Club’s annual Christmas party.
